Tourist places in Raipur (CG)

Raipur is the capital of the state Chhattisgarh in Central India. It is a flourishing city not only in terms of the industry but also in tourism, as it ropes in large numbers of tourists from various corners of India. Raipur district is situated in the fertile plains of Chhattisgarh region. It comes under the Raipur division. Raipur is surrounded by district Bilaspur in the north, District Bastar and part of  Odisha state in the south, district Raigarh part of Orissa state in the east and district Durg in the west.

Doodhadhari monastery is in the south of Raipur. An ancient river called Maharajband close by this landmark. This ancient Temple was built by king Jait Singh in the mid-17th century and it is dedicated to Lord Rama. This Temple feature is stunning murals. The monastery was named after Swami Balbhadra Das who survived only a Doodh (milk) as his food. Burials of the former Mahants can also be seen here.

Vivekananda Ashram is an important place of tourist interest for those, who seek spiritual enlightenment and is a branch of the mission inaugurated by Swami Vivekananda in the year  1897.The organization work on the principles of ideologies that are based on renunciation and self-emancipation and attempts to achieve the overall well being of the world.

Vivekanand Sarovar is also known as Budha Talab Boat club. Boat facilities are available, where one can enjoy the beauty of the beautiful Sarovar. It is said that Swami Vivekananda stayed Near the lake and took a bath in the pond so that the pond was named after him. The major attraction is 37 ft high statue of Swami Vivekananda. This statue has been added to Limca Book of Records as the largest model for the statue.

The museum Mahant Ghasidas Memorial is in Raipur has two floors featuring 5 galleries, and features different sections including archaeology, anthropology and natural history. It is near DK Hospital. Museum was established in the year 1875. It also displays crafts, jewelry, paintings, and terracotta belonging to tribal culture. This museum also has an interesting library.

Shadani Darbar is kept on the name of saint Shri Shadramji Saheb, spread over an area of 12 acres. It has a hall, where Dhuni Saheb is kept.

Barnawapara is mainly a forest area situated at 120 km from Raipur. It as a wildlife sanctuary. the animals generally found in the sanctuary are deers, panthers, leopard and other.

Rajim is 48 km from Raipur. An ancient temple of Lord Kuleshwar of 14th- 15th  century is also here. Other famous temples are a temple of Rajiv Lochan and Rajeshwar temple. Rajivlochan temple is of 8th-9th  century.

Champaran is it religious place, situated at 36 KM from Raipur. Ballabhacharya, Guru of  Vaishnav Dharm and founder of Vallabhav sect was born here. The followers of Guru Ballabhacharya have made a temple in his memory in the 20th century. Champaran is full of natural beauty. Every year in the month of January and February, his followers gather here to celebrate his birthday.
