Best tourist places in Raipur and Naya Raipur Chhattisgarh


Raipur –

Raipur is the capital of the state Chhattisgarh in Central India. It is a flourishing city not only in terms of the industry but also in tourism, as it attracts large numbers of tourists from various corners of India.

It is surrounded by district Bilaspur in the north, District Bastar, and part of  Odisha state in the south, district Raigarh part of Orissa state in the east and district Durg in the west.

Doodhadhari monastery

Doodhadhari monastery is in the south of Raipur. This ancient temple was built by king Jait Singh in the mid-17th century and it is dedicated to Lord Rama.

This Temple feature is stunning murals. The monastery was named after Swami Balbhadra Das who survived only on Doodh (milk) as his food.

Vivekananda Ashram

Vivekananda Ashram is the best place of tourist interest for those, who seek spiritual enlightenment and is a branch of the mission inaugurated by Swami Vivekananda in the year  1897.

Vivekanand Sarovar

Vivekanand Sarovar is also known as the Budha Talab Boat club. Boat facilities are available, where one can enjoy the beauty of the beautiful Sarovar.

It is said that Swami Vivekananda stayed Near the lake and took a bath in the pond. So that the pond was named after him.

The major attraction is a 37 ft high statue of Swami Vivekananda.

This statue has been added to Limca Book of Records as the largest model for the statue.


Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum

The museum Mahant Ghasidas Memorial is in Raipur has two floors featuring 5 galleries, and features different sections including archaeology, anthropology, and natural history.

Museum was established in the year 1875. It also displays crafts, jewelry, paintings, and terracotta belonging to tribal culture. This museum also has an interesting library.

Shadani Darbar

Shadani Darbar is kept on the name of saint Shri Shadramji Saheb, spread over an area of 12 acres. It has a hall, where Dhuni Saheb is kept.

Barnawapara is mainly a forest area situated at 120 km from Raipur.

It as a wildlife sanctuary and the animals generally found in the sanctuary are deers, panthers, and leopards.


Rajim is 48 km from Raipur. An ancient temple of Lord Kuleshwar of the 14th- 15th  century is also here.

Rajivlochan temple

Other famous temples are a temple of Rajiv Lochan and Rajeshwar temple.

Rajivlochan temple is of the 8th-9th  century.


Champaran is it religious place, situated at 36 KM from Raipur. Ballabhacharya, Guru of  Vaishnav Dharm, and founder of Vallabhav sect were born here.

The followers of Guru Ballabhacharya have made a temple in his memory in the 20th century. Champaran is full of natural beauty.

Every year in the month of January and February, his followers gather here to celebrate his birthday.

Naya Raipur – 

The state government felt that there is a need for a planned new city for Raipur.

After the formation of the new state of Chhattisgarh in November 2000. So Naya Raipur came into existence.

Purkhauti Muktangan

Purkhauti Muktangan Park is an amazing place to visit in Naya Raipur which is near the IIIT campus. It is around 26.5 km from Raipur Railways station.

It is around 13.2 km from Swami Vivekananda International Airport Raipur. It shows the tribal art and culture of Chhattisgarh.

Jungle Safari

The Jungle Safari, located at sector-39, Naya Raipur. Naya Raipur is about 35km from Raipur Railway Station and 15km from the Swami Vivekanand Airport, Raipur.

The entire 800 Acre area of the Nandanvan Jungle Safari is lush green, with beautiful landscapes.

Several indigenous plant species also add up to the vegetation, creating a natural habitat for the animals.

It has 130 Acre of water body named ‘Khandwa Reservoir’ which attracts many migratory bird species.

Four safaris namely, Herbivore Safari (which includes Chital, Sambhar, Blue bull, Barking Deer and Blackbucks), Bear Safari, Tiger Safari & Lion Safari has been established.
